WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined once again by Nick Spencer (Morning Glories / The Amazing Spider-Man) as we discuss his comics origins, his role in the Substack comics revolution, building the universe of 3 Worlds / 3 Moons, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan’s vibes, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
And we’re back with part II of our chat with Nick Spencer here. If you missed part I have no fear. I got you. I had a lot of fun on this one diving into some of the ideas behind Nick’s time at Marvel as well as the big ideas behind Substack comics and
. It’s rare that I feel like I missed asking a lot of good questions after an episode, but this is definitely one of those. I still think the conversation is good and fun and I hope you all like it. And who knows? Maybe if I bother Nick for another 2 years he’ll come back and do the podcast again. But while we’re on the subject, I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t mention some of his great creator owned series like THE FIX, MORNING GLORIES, EXISTENCE 2.0, BEDLAM, FORGETLESS, SHUDDERTOWN, or INFINITE VACATION.
But he would much rather I tell you to go support his newest project 3 Worlds / 3 Moons which he makes with the mysterious Mike Huddleston, the magical Mike Del Mundo, and merciful Jonathan Hickman. Their substack is not only some truly fascinating sci-fi stories, it is also a mind-blowing experiment in storytelling.
But if you don’t want to sign up for another newsletter because we’ve pretty much perfected the medium here at Ashcan Press, you can always just back their Kickstarter.
You have one week left to get you some gorgeous sci-fi comics and support a very cool project. Do it
Friend of the newsletter (and friend in real life) Matthew Amuso has been writing for a publication I’ve liked for a long time, the great
. He had a very good deep dive piece reexamining KILL YOUR BOYFRIEND by Morrison, Bond, and co.Comics as a whole tends to churn out a lot of content, which leads to a focus on “the new hotness.” But I am a real sucker for taking a break to pull an older book off the shelf and take it out for a spin. It’s important to look back and reexamine your roots and I love that DoomRocket and Matthew are taking the time to do that. And this piece made me want to reread KILL YOUR BOYFRIEND so I think it did it’s job quite well.
DoomRocket is also doing new comic reviews and news, as well as other pop culture stuff. If you have it in you to subscribe you won’t regret it.
Over on our Youtube channel we’re still making our way through our weekly backlog of episodes. Today is part I of our chat with
of RADIANT BLACK / POWER RANGERS / C.O.W.L. fame. Give it a listen as we dive into his history and the origins of the Radiant Black universe. And if you enjoyed this make sure to subscribe to
for all the Kyle news you can handle. And if you haven’t checked out his superhero opus RADIANT BLACK they are hitting a major milestone in the series and it is an excellent chance for you to jump on board and start reading one of comics most exciting new superhero books in a long time. Ask your local comic shop to get you hooked. That’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Have you all ever seen the brutalist Macy’s in Stamford, CT? Saw it today and it haunted me.
