WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, Gerry Duggan (Deadpool / X-Men / Analog) returns to the show as we discuss artificial intelligence, the softcover release of his photography book Timing/Luck, his Image Comics series Falling in Love on the Path to Hell, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, Ethan S. Parker, a clone of Griffin Sheridan and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello again!
As I write this I am procrastinating from packing for a top secret trip this week. And what better way to procrastinate than by writing to you about exciting things. What an exciting thing this is. Our dear friend Gerry Duggan is joining the Double Bleeders Club™! I am sure Kelly Thompson and Ed Brisson will welcome him with open arms. Or murder him. Either/or.
We wanted to have Gerry back on the show because it’s been a long time since his first visit (here and here) and he’s had a lot going on. For starters his excellent photo book TIMING/LUCK was on Kickstarter back then and now it is in comic shops right now for all to read. He’s switched teams from THE X-MEN to THE (WEST COAST) AVENGERS. Obviously The X-Men are the better team (do you see how much softball they play?) but if you’re going to be an Avenger, be a West Coast one. Or Great Lakes. They rule.
But the big thing that has us excited about Gerry these days is his bestselling new Image Comics series FALLING IN LOVE ON THE PATH TO HELL with our old buddy Garry Brown on art. It’s a story about the afterlife, finding the person you’re meant to be with, cowboys, and samurai. Not necessarily in that order. It’s a great series and if you’ve missed it so far the upcoming trade paperback is just $9.99 for a limited time! That’s a lot of comic for not a lot of money. But tell your local comic shop you want it now because the price is going to go up when the first print sells out.
Hope you enjoy this one. And sign up for Gerry’s very good newsletter too so you don’t have to learn about all this shit from me.
Okay. Remember when I said DC VS. VAMPIRES #5 was out last week. That was a joke and you all got that, right? Obviously it is out THIS week. Ah, we have such fun together, don’t we?
Vampires. Superheroes. Some folks you thought were dead maybe aren’t. Some folks who weren’t maybe are about to be. The hunt for the Miracle baby goes not great. Go get it!
And while we’re trying to sell you stuff, just a quick heads up that your local comic shop can still order you all 7 deluxe editions of WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE?. I said that online and people were shocked, but it’s true. So if you’re missing any of them or just want to check out some badass music from folks like BLAKE SCHWARZENBACH / JOYCE MANOR / SCREAMING FEMALES / WORRIERS / NOTHING / RESTORATIONS / CHUBBY & THE GANG / SPIRITUAL CRAMP / AJJ / TIM BARRY / GULCH / MILITARIE GUN / SHARON VAN ETTEN / JULIEN BAKER then get on it.
And if your local comic shop can’t or won’t get you copies we got you.
There are a still a few days left to order if you want them for the holidays!
This week I am sitting in the other seat as I am actually a guest on Atom Freeman’s excellent podcast COMIC INDUSTRY INSIDERS.
I’ve known Atom since I started trying to make comics and he offered me my first ever job in publishing… which I did not take. But not because of him.
If you are unfamiliar with Atom he is the guy behind putting a ton of excellent comics into stores and making sure they find their audience. Now he is also a podcaster where he talks to a lot of the people behind the scenes who make this industry run but get none of the credit. I don’t really fit the bill since I definitely do not make this industry run but always try to take credit. But he was kind enough to invite me anyway.
It’s a fun interview and goes a lot of weird places. You can tell I haven’t done a lot of press lately because I say a lot of crazy shit I definitely should not say. Yay. Watch me be uncomfortable on Youtube or you can just listen wherever you get your podcasts. You’ll just have to imagine how much I’m squirming in my chair though.
Either way, if you want to know the real inside baseball of how comics are made you should definitely subscribe to his show. It’s always a great listen.
Speaking of your tubes, Part II of our chat with the great Frank Barbiere is up now. Give it a watch.
That was fun.
That’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Guess where I’m going on my top secret trip this week?
