Chapter 215: IDEAS DON'T BLEED episode one hundred twenty-two | Vita Ayala Returns, part two

WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!

This week, Vita Ayala (Quarter Killer / Static: Season One) returns to the show once again as we discuss the secrets that lie beneath museums, the goals of The Horizon Experiment, their upcoming one-shot Finder’s Keepers, and more!

IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!

Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.

Enjoy!

We’re back again with Part II of our chat with the great Vita Ayala about their new Image Comics book FINDERS KEEPERS, which is out right now! We had a fun deep dive into the “Reverse Indiana Jones” premise of the book, the idea behind the broader HORIZON EXPERIMENT, and what it’s like to work security at a museum. Lots of secrets revealed that might get us all in trouble. Yay!

If you haven’t grabbed FINDERS KEEPERS yet head down to your local comic shop now and grab a copy. And pick up all the HORIZON EXPERIMENT one shots- THE MANCHURIAN, THE SACRED DAMNED, MOON DOGS, and MOTHERFUCKING MONSTERS. You can read more about them all here.

And if you missed Part I of our chat with Vita you can listen here.

As I discussed before, there is more damage and heartache in the Los Angeles fires than we will ever be able to fix. It is hard to figure out a good singular way to help, but there are thousands of different people and orgs in need of funds, supplies, and help. So this week I want to focus on a personal one.

My very beloved old friend Ryan and his wife Clara lost their new home in the fires last week and they could use any help you can give them. I’ve known Ryan since we were both kids. I’ve driven hundreds of miles with him to see him play his heart out in empty basements and flown across oceans to see him do the same in front of 10,000 people. I’ve traveled the world with him, slept on floors next to him, watched him get his ass tattooed, watched as he busted that ass to evolve from a scrappy hardcore kid into a globe traveling journalist, then the head of a global news agency, and finally an acclaimed documentary filmmaker. We’ve grown apart in recent years as careers, lives, and literal distance put distance between us, but Ryan is someone I’ve always been proud to consider a friend, and someone who I hope knows he could always count on me if he needed to. And it seems that time is now.

If you’re looking for ways to help, Ryan and Cara could use it.

Thinking about my friend thousands of miles away, and how some things fade with time, and some just don’t. And thinking about the songs he used to sing and how they still mean so much to me.

“Hit a turning point. We’re numb, and I'm not all that comfortable with this. We're on the verge it. Somebody must feel this. We're all on the edge of it. We're hedging our bets, yeah. And I'm leaving town, yeah. Because soon it will hit like a summer storm. Soon it will hit.”

Over on our Youtube we’re going posting older episodes of the podcast. Here is our chat with the great

. Since we did this interview Declan has been crushing it on titles like THUNDERCATS, TERMINATOR, MYSTIQUE, and his own TIME BEFORE TIME. I don’t want to take all the credit for his success but… c’mon.

Enjoy.

That’s it for me.

Stay safe. Take care of each other. Fix your hearts or die.
