WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined once again by Deniz Camp (20th Century Men / Maxwell’s Demons) as we discuss his comics origins, taking big swings, his new Marvel Comics series The Ultimates, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello again.
Time for the Part II of our chat with the great Deniz Camp. If you missed Part I, you can find it and all our other episodes here. Getting the chance to catch up with Deniz was a blast. We’re talking about what it means to have readers vs. fans, the disposability of comics, and a whole lot more. I think I talk too much but Deniz gives illuminating answers. You should all be grabbing his new series THE ULTIMATES which just began. And if you’re in the mood for a longer read I really can’t recommend 20th CENTURY MEN enough. The complete series is out now from Image Comics.
I wanted to say a few words about a new book that’s coming out soon and is on Final Order Cutoff today. (You know the deal. Last day your local comic shop can guarantee you a copy. Helps the shops gauge demand. Helps you get a copy. Makes everyone happy. World peace.) So take my word for it and call or stop in to your local comic shop and tell them you need a copy.
NICE HOUSE BY THE SEA #1 by James Tynion IV, Álvaro Martínez Bueno, Jordie Bellaire, and Andworld Design is a stunningly good comic. If you haven’t read their previous series NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE you missed a masterclass in tension, creepiness, and just all around great comics. I’d urge you to grab it. But now the team is back to do it again, but also completely change everything we thought we knew. I don’t want to give anything away, but suffice to say this issue is not what you expect. All the creepiness, all the insanity, all the paranoia and fear, and… more. It’s not often that we get the chance to see a creative team come back to an idea and completely breathe new life into it while still honoring what came before. This is a must read comic. So order yourself a copy today.
And make sure to sign up for James’s newsletter Tiny Onion to keep up to date with all things James.
That’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Drink some water.
