WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined once again by Kyle Starks (I Hate This Place / Peacemaker Tries Hard) as we discuss his comics origins, making comedy work in comics, his new graphic novel Karate Prom, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello again!
Hope you enjoyed Part I of our chat with quadruple threat Kyle Starks (he writes, he draws, he acts, and he makes a wonderful waffle.) We enjoyed it so much we came back for Part II. And I’m glad we did because Kyle is great, and despite my insistence that we are rivals, I am always happy to talk to him or see his name on a new project. And boy does he have a lot. SEXCASTLE, OLD HEAD, KILL THEM ALL, ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN, I HATE THIS PLACE, DEAD OF WINTER, ASSASSIN NATION, SIX SIDEKICKS OF TRIGGER KEATON, PEACEMAKER TRIES HARD, PINE AND MERRIMAC, or the just released graphic novel KARATE PROM. They’re all worth their weight in gold. Not literally. But comics gold. And, as you know, comics gold is worth its weight in comics. So listen and enjoy and then go read some of Kyle’s comics.
I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that my illustrious co-hosts Ethan and Griffin were just nominated for an Eisner Award for their series KILL YOUR DARLINGS. If you don’t know the Eisner Awards are basically the Oscars for comics, but instead of a celebratory night of the most beautiful people in the world getting dressed up in fancy clothes from all the top fashion houses, it’s lots of dudes who don’t go outside much dressed in cargo shorts and faded Man-Thing t-shirts. But same basic concept. For those counting at home, this is their first comic. So that officially makes them badass geniuses. I am sure the good folks at Batman Industries or Spider-Man inc. are scrambling to offer them work, but you can say you were a fan from jump by calling your local comic shop and preordering the KILL YOUR DARLINGS trade paperback now. Huge congrats and all the love the the Supple Boiz Supple Men and the whole KYD team.
And if you’re eligible to vote in the Eisners, fucking vote for them! They have to put up with me every week.
That’s it for now
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Supple Men sounds worse somehow, right?
