We wanted to do something a bit different this week. There is a special kind of feeling when you work at a publisher who is constantly releasing books that make you excited as a reader and want to do better as a creator. There is something very special going on at Image lately. A bunch of the great titles have returned from break- RADIANT BLACK, DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH, BLACK CLOAK, ULTRA MEGA, MONSTRESS, BITTER ROOT, COPRA. A bunch of the big books are really hitting their stride- FALLING IN LOVE ON THE PATH TO HELL, SAM & TWITCH, POWER FANTASY, NIGHTS, FERAL, everything GHOST MACHINE. And the new launches have been amazing- THE LUCKY DEVILS, THE SEASONS, BUG WARS, NULL HUNTER, DOLL PARTS. There is “drag your lapsed comic reader pals back to the shop with you” energy in the air. There are “pick up some extra #1s for your comics-curious buddies” vibes. There is a “tell your Big Two faithful friends it’s time to for them to expand their horizons” mood. So many good comics worth your time and money. It’s almost too much…
But it’s not! After drowning you in news about my new series with Stefano Landini, WE’RE TAKING EVERYONE DOWN WITH US, I wanted to spotlight a few other amazing books coming out this month as well. So I invited creators from 3 other books that I love to come on the show and we could all have a roundtable discussion. Tyler Boss writer of YOU’LL DO BAD THINGS, Deniz Camp writer of ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS, and Juni Ba writer and artist on MONKEY MEAT: THE SUMMER BATCH joined me for a live conversation on our Youtube channel. And now, for all of you who missed it, we’ve made it into a podcast.
MONKEY MEAT: THE SUMMER BATCH #1 is in comic shops today and it is truly a wonderful, weird, funny, clever, and unique book. Grab yourself a copy.
ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #1 is in comic shops next week. A brilliant and powerful bit of storytelling that plays with form and convention while still hitting you right in the heart. The writing Deniz does here is some of his best, and Eric Zawadzki and Jordie Bellaire create something truly beautiful. When you pick up MONKEY MEAT tell them you need this too.
YOU’LL DO BAD THINGS #1 is in stores March 26th. Tyler has created maybe my favorite comic in quite a long time. It is equal parts formalist Giallo slasher story and wild exploration of the medium of comics. Adriano Turtulici’s art is a joy on every page, and Tyler creates something much smarter and more powerful than the sum of its parts. It really is a must read for horror fans and non-horror fans alike. So tell your local shop you want a copy.
