WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined by Saladin Ahmed (Black Bolt / Miles Morales: Spider-Man) as we discuss his comics origins, his new Image Comics series Starsigns and Terrorwar, taking over writing duties on Daredevil, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello again!
I’m back from 8 hours in Canada (had some poutine and donuts, did not get a bag of chocolate milk) and we’re back for another exciting week of (other stuff and) podcasting! I’m very happy to finally have the wonderful Saladin Ahmed on the show. Saladin is the writer of a lot of great comics for Marvel, such as last week’s DAREDEVIL #1, which you should all be reading. He is also the writer of many sci-fi and fantasy short stories, the novel THRONE OF THE CRESCENT MOON, and a lot of great indie books such as ABBOTT from Boom! Studios and his two new creator-owned books STARSIGNS and TERRORWAR from Image Comics. He’s one of comics most interesting voices to emerge in the last decade and is well worth listening to. So, ya know, listen.
I am one of those people who spends a lot of time talking about comics as a community. I realize for many people it is not. Comics is an artistic medium, a type of story you may enjoy, and nothing more. And that’s fine. But for myself and a lot of my peers it is much more than that. Community can mean a lot of things to different people, but I think (or maybe just hope) that at its core it means we do our best to look out for each other when we can.
The comics community does a decent job of looking out for each other often, but many times it feels one directional to me. Comic creators in need can often find help. Sometimes retailers can find similar levels of support. But the comics community is much more than just comic creators and shop owners. Comics journalists are often overlooked heroes of the medium and, it just so happens, one of them could use our support.
Kevin is the founder of Robot 6 and served as a key figure at CBR for years. He could use the support of the comics community these days. If you have anything to spare, it would be appreciated.
That’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. I think I like poutine but I’m not that into gravy?
