IDEAS DON'T BLEED episode one hundred sixteen | Steve Foxe, part two

Chapter 207: Human-cyborg relations!

WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!

This week, we’re joined once again by Steve Foxe (Razorblades / New Champions) as we discuss his comics origins, how working as an editor has affected his writing work, his Dark Horse series All Eight Eyes, and more!

IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, Ethan S. Parker, the beloved memory of Griffin Sheridan and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!

Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.

Enjoy!

Hi.

Hope everyone had an exciting Black Friday, a relaxing Small Business Saturday, an eventful Hunt Your Enemies Sunday, and a peaceful Cyber Monday. Now that it’s finally Giving Tuesday I thought I’d send you the newest episode of our podcast.

This is Part II of our chat with the great Steve Foxe. If you missed Part I you can find it here. I got a lot of messages from folks saying how much they enjoyed this chat so far. I’m hoping we don’t ruin it here. But also, seeing as Steve and I are working on a bunch of projects together, this gives me a lot of joy. As a writer, as an editor, and as a person he has always been someone whose work I’ve enjoyed so I’m glad to hear many of you do as well. And if you haven’t had the pleasure, please check out SPIDER-WOMAN, X-MEN ‘97, DEAD X-MEN, SPIDER-HAM, CHASM, ALL EIGHT EYES, PARTY AND PREY, and RAINBOW BRIDGE. And tell your local comic shop you need a copy of his upcoming Dark Horse series LET THIS ONE BE A DEVIL.

And while you’re at it, sign up for his not frequent enough newsletter. I get it. He’s busy.

Turns out I have 2 new comics coming out tomorrow. Who knew?

WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? #20 is the beginning of the end. Don’t worry, it’s a long end. We’ve been away for a bit banking issues and it feels good to be back on shelves. If you’ve never read WTFPFH? before this is a good jumping on point. Not as good as issue #1, but better than not jumping on.

What's The Furthest Place From Here? #20

And check out this sweet cover by the great Adam de Souza.

1024 IM460

If you want to try before you buy you can read the preview right now courtesy of our friends at Image Comics.

Also out this week is DC VS. VAMPIRES: WORLD WAR V #5. Look who’s back. Or maybe she’s just on the cover. Either way, this is a wild one and leads to the craziest stuff we’ve done in the book so far. Grab yourself a copy tomorrow at your finest local comic purveyor.

And of course I’m going to talk about my buddy Josh Hixson’s badass as hell Mister Miracles and child cover. Besides Otto and I doing our normal thing, this issue also has a fun back up story from Matthew Manning and Acky Bright.

While you’re in the comic shop tomorrow buying all my funny books make sure to tell them you need a copy of good friends Charles Soule and Ryan Browne’s new series THE LUCKY DEVILS. If you loved CURSE WORDS and EIGHT BILLION GENIES this is a no-brainer. If you didn’t you should still give this a try because you never know, maybe new you is smarter than old you.

The Lucky Devils #1 (of 9)

Full of great jokes, chaotic mischief, and 2 weird little guys. What more could you want?

Over on the YouTube we’ve put up our interview with FIVE GHOSTS / VIOLENT LOVE writer Frank Barbiere. Frank and I came up together in comics because we knew each other through punk rock. I learned so much about how to make comics from him, so it was fun to catch up. We don’t see each other so much anymore because he moved to Texas and splits his time between writing comics and writing best-selling videogames now. So even though we aren’t driving to cons or comic shopping together, to me he’ll always be the guy who almost got us killed riding the L in Chicago.

Give it a listen. Like it. Subscribe to it. Make your friends watch it or you will die within 7 days….

Wait. That’s the Ring. Nevermind.

That’s it for me.

Stay safe. Take care of each other. Is The Ring the only movie where the big budget American remake is better than the original?
