Chapter 205: IDEAS DON'T BLEED episode one hundred fifteen | Steve Foxe, part one

WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!

This week, we’re joined by Steve Foxe (Razorblades / New Champions) as we discuss his comics origins, how working as an editor has affected his writing work, his Dark Horse series All Eight Eyes, and more!

IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan’s vibes, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!

Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.

Enjoy!

Hello again.

We have a very fun show this week and a chance to do something a little different. I’ve known Steve for a long time and he has always been someone whose taste and opinions I’ve really respected. So in the last few years it has been a real pleasure watching him become not just a great writer on books like SPIDER-WOMAN, X-MEN ‘97, DEAD X-MEN, SPIDER-HAM, CHASM, ALL EIGHT EYES, PARTY AND PREY, RAINBOW BRIDGE, but also an editor on some of my favorite comics like W0RLDTR33, THE DEVIANT, DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH, and RAZORBLADES. As well as maybe a few things from me that you will be hearing about very soon.

I wanted to pick his brain about writing and discuss his upcoming books like NEW CHAMPIONS from Marvel and LET THIS ONE BE A DEVIL from Dark Horse, but it’s rare that we have an editor on here so I couldn’t resist the chance to talk to him about that as well. What follows is, I think, a really fun chat about making comics from both sides of the table.

I hope you enjoy it. Make sure to tell your comic shop you want to check out NEW CHAMPIONS and LET THIS ONE BE A DEVIL. And make sure to sign up to Steve’s newsletter here-

It’s that time for another fun round of funding cool stuff. This time we’re focussed on our friends over at Humanoids bringing back the seminal French sci-fi/fantasy magazine METAL HURLANT. Here in the U.S. you may know it from it’s similar but different offspring HEAVY METAL MAGAZINE. But Humanoids is bringing back the original as a regular anthology magazine series featuring some of the best talent from around the world. Folks like Moebius, Matt Fraction, Enki Bilal, Peach Momoko, Robert Crumb, Brian Michael Bendis, Trina Robbins, James Stokoe, Mark Waid, and so many more.

It’s a very cool project and the kind of thing that I think true fans of the medium, or sci-fi and fantasy, will really love. So if you want to be the coolest nerd around next year, preorder yourself some METAL HURLANT-

Kickstart Metal Hurlant!

Do it!

Over on our shockingly underloved Youtube page we have just put up Part II of our discussion with

That’s it for me.

Stay safe. Take care of each other. What’s the weirdest thing you’re going to eat on Thanksgiving?
