IDEAS DON'T BLEED episode thirty-seven | Ed Brisson, part one

Chapter 116: What are you talking about?

WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!

This week, we’re joined by Ed Brisson (Predator / Murder Book) as we discuss his career in penciling and publishing, his transition into comics writing, and his new AWA series Sins of the Salton Sea!

SINS OF THE SALTON SEA #1 (OF 5) CVR A BRADSTREET (Net) (MR)

IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!

Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.

Enjoy!

Hello again!

We’re very excited to have the wonderful Ed Brisson back on the show this week. We all love Ed so much that we made him the first ever two-time guest on the show*. And we have a lot of reasons to love Ed lately. He’s been absolutely crushing it at Marvel on books like PREDATOR and the upcoming ALPHA FLIGHT, while also crushing it at DC on books like BATMAN INC, DEATHSTROKE INC (he fucking loves corporations!), and STORMWATCH!

Plus he has a substack newsletter you all should be subscribed to. Sometimes he sends out pictures of his cat and it looks like a cartoon version of a cat that was cursed by a wizard to become a real cat and is now really pissed about existing in 3 dimensions.

But none of that is why we had Ed on again. I got to read the first 3 issues of his new series for AWA- SINS OF THE SALTON SEA and it is about as fun as you can have in comics. Just a really cool, smart, and badass crime story that I truly think is must read comics and it comes out THIS WEEK! Look at that. We could not have planned this better if we tried…. Which we did not. So go ahead and give the show a listen and then run to your local comic shop and tell them you need this one, because it will sell out and you will miss out. And then all the cool kids are going to make fun of you for not reading it, and why do you want to mocked by children if you can avoid it?

*not true.

In other news, friend of the show and comic book empire mogul Kyle Higgins has big stuff going on in his book RADIANT BLACK this week. I will let Kyle explain it because I would just be snarky and that doesn’t help anyone, but this is actually very fun.

In the last issue of Radiant Black, we surprised readers with a twist-- only one of the characters can be Radiant Black permanently. And it's readers who will decide.

This is something we've been building to for over two years-- the vote really does determine the future of the book, just in time to kick off the most narratively ambitious story that any of us have ever tried, The Catalyst War

We're now in the final 5 days of voting (ends Friday). The vote website is: http://radiant.black/vote

So there you have it. Go to the site and vote for the future of the book. You can also grab any and all RADIANT BLACK and MASSIVE-VERSE titles you’ve been missing direct from them if your local comic shop doesn’t have ‘em. And if you need further proof this storyline in RADIANT BLACK is cool you can see it right here-

This coloring… So good!

If you’re still on the fence you can listen to Kyle right here and here on our show and see if he convinces you with his charm. But honestly if the art didn’t do it I’m not holding my breath for that one.

Anyway, go vote. It’s your civic responsibility. And it would make Kyle happy.

Stay safe. Take care of each other. Everyone beg Ed to release his self-published stuff.
