WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined by Pornsak Pichetshote (Infidel / Dead Boy Detectives) as we discuss his careers in comics and television, and his Image series The Good Asian!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello again.
Hope you’re doing well this fine Monday. I’m just leaving South Carolina, where I spent 5 days visiting family, eating BBQ, and writing scripts in a rental house that had a vibe like maybe something died in it but they worked really, really hard to cover up the smell. Good news- saw 9.5 alligators. (One of them might have been a log so I don’t get full credit for him.) Bad news- didn’t get to touch any of them.
Anyway, I’m headed back to NYC now. Where there are less alligators and the BBQ sucks. But nothing recently died in my apartment (fingers crossed.)
I am very excited about the show this week. Pornsak is a former editor on some books I truly love, a writer of beloved TV, and in the last few years has become one of the most interesting comic writers around. He masterfully recontextualizes genre tropes, making them speak to modern topics that almost no one in comics is dealing with. Masterfully jumping from horror to crime noir, but never losing sight of the great characters who make it work, his Image Comics series INFIDEL and THE GOOD ASIAN are must read comics. And now he’s working on DEAD BOY DETECTIVES for DC and, like his other books, it’s a stunningly smart and engrossing work that somehow manages to feel like a well-worn old favorite and something completely fresh at the same time.
Hope you enjoy our chat as much as I enjoyed having it.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Touch an alligator.
