WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined by Vita Ayala (New Mutants / Static: Season One) as we discuss their feelings on prose, breaking into the comics industry, and their work on Quarter Killer, The Wilds, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello again.
This is a fun one for me. I’ve known Vita for years, long before either of us ever made a comic. We met working together in a comic shop in the East Village of New York. We quickly bonded over our shared experiences of growing up in NYC, our need for frozen chocolatey drinks, our love of indie comics, and our desire to make our own. We worked late nights putting out all the new comics, listening to music too loud, eating donuts, and talking about what we want to make.
Over the years we’ve stayed close friends and followed each other around the industry from Black Mask, to Marvel, to DC. Watching Vita crush it on big 2 books like CHILDREN OF THE ATOM, NEW MUTANTS, NUBIA, STATIC, or watching them build their own stuff like THE WILDS, SUBMERGED, and QUARTER KILLER is something that always brings me joy as both a friend and a fan.
Hope you enjoy our chat.
While I’ve got you, this is my friendly, and slightly intimidating, reminder that today is Final Order Cutoff for friends-of-the-newsletter Kelly Thompson, Mattia De Iulis, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s new Image Comics series THE CULL.
The book is gorgeous, creepy, and so engrossing. Call, message, write, or pop into your local comic shop today and let them know you need like a thousand copies.
That’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Be the Lou Bega you want to see in the world.
