WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined by Skottie Young (Strange Academy / The Me You Love in the Dark) as we discuss his comics origins, working on Oz and baby variants at Marvel, his upcoming Image Comics series Ain’t No Grave, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello again.
Happy April 1st. We’ll get to that later. For now, I’m really excited to have my longtime buddy Skottie Young come on the show this week. Skottie is one of the most recognizable artists working in comics today, and a true fan favorite. In recent years has also made a name for himself as a writer of stories full of big ideas and heart. And beyond that he is just a really good guy who has done more really kind things for me than I feel like listing. So it was a no-brainer having him come on the show, but we’re both super busy so it took a long time to make it happen. I’m glad it finally did though.
If you’re not familiar with Skottie’s work, you should fix that. You can grab his amazing books like I HATE FAIRYLAND, MIDDLEWEST, BULLY WARS, THE ME YOU LOVE IN THE DARK, TWIG, and even his Marvel comics at your local comic shop or directly from the man himself here. And while you’re in a shopping mood, make sure you call your local comic shop and tell them you need a copy of AIN’T NO GRAVE #1. Skottie didn’t send it to me, because I guess we’re not as close as I thought we were, but I’m sure it’s great.
Also, make sure to sign up for his fun Newsletter full of art and thoughts and whatnot here-
Hope you enjoy our chat and come back next week for Part II.
Theoretically I appreciate April Fool’s Day. I like a good prank as much as the next guy. The only problem is, in this age of disinformation and horrible news everywhere, the next guy has started to really dislike pranks. So I spent a while trying to think of something that wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings and would be fun, but I decided it wasn’t worth the risk. So my prank for the day is we’re offering 2 of our most requested items in our webstore at a massive discount this week. Can’t get mad at that, can you?
WTFPFH? #1-6 connecting map covers by Courtney Menard. These badass covers feature the actual map that we use in the series. They were originally incentive covers stores could get if they ordered enough copies of our book, but we have a few sets left over. People request these (A LOT) so now we are putting them up in the store as a set.
WTFPFH? #1-6 webstore exclusive variant set. These are the colors Tyler originally wanted to use for the covers of the book, but I thought people would think they were too weird. In the end, I think Tyler might have been right but who can say for sure. Either way, we made limited variants of them that all connect to have the name of the book on them. We still have some of these left.
So this week only, we’re offering both sets for just $20 each, that’s $40 off! At checkout just use the code: FooledYou
Happy April Fool’s Day.
That’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Go buy discount Peeps and put them in your hot cocoa!
