IDEAS DON'T BLEED episode sixty | Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, part two

Chapter 155: No, not that one!

WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!

This week, we’re joined once again by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (PanelxPanel / Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees) as we discuss his comics origins, working with Matt and Tyler on What’s the Furthest Place From Here?, his new graphic novel The Unlikely Story of Felix and Macabber, and more!

IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!

Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.

Enjoy!

Hello.

Back again with Part II of our chat with Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. I really had a blast with this one and hope you all enjoy listening to it also. Hassan is such a fascinating guest because he comes at comics from so many different angles-

Journalist with PANELxPANEL.

Youtuber with Strip Panel Naked.

Writer with THE UNLIKELY STORY OF FELIX AND MACABBER with artist Juni Ba.

USFAM preview first page (page2)

And letterer on all your favorite books, such as WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE?

But in addition to all that, Hassan has a really neat newsletter all about lettering. It’s fascinating and insightful and well worth your time.

Hassan's Lettering List

And unlike some people *cough Me cough* he isn’t filling up your damn inbox every week.

Read, listen, and subscribe to all his stuff.

Real quick. Remember when I told you Final Order Cutoff for WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? #16 was last Monday. I lied. It’s today. Whoops.

What's The Furthest Place From Here? #16
We have this great cover by Tyler, which is one of my favorites.

And this wild cover by Joe Mulvey and Kelly Fitzpatrick. It’s so good!

Call, email, message, or pop into your local comic shop today and demand ask nicely for 3 dozen copies.

I am a sucker for cool comic shops. I think every neighborhood should have a good shop full of comics in it. So it pains me when I hear that a shop is having a rough time. A lot of comic shops are being hit hard in the recent economic slowdown (your regular reminder to pick up your pull list!) and Outsider Comics in Seattle, Washington has posted that they need some help.

I haven’t had the chance to visit their shop yet, but they are self described as “a queer and trans worker owned local comic book store located in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, WA. We cater to comic readers of all ages and experience levels, and we are proud to host an LGBTQIA+ inclusive environment. You can find the latest graphic novels, single issues of comics, zines and items made by local artists and crafters, gifts, and much more in our store. You can also find a curated selection of our inventory in our online store.” If that sounds like a place you want to support, and it should, you have a couple options. If you’re in the Seattle area go visit them. If not, they ship worldwide.

The holidays are coming up and comics make the best gifts. Also, it’s been a wild year and you probably just deserve some gifts for yourself. Either way, you can do two good things at once and buy some books and games while supporting a cool place.

Want some gift suggestions (for you or other people)?

BLACK MONDAY MURDERS vol. 1.

NIGHT EATERS vol. 1.

THE WAY OF THE HOUSE HUSBAND vol. 1.

FRIDAY vol. 1.

PRINCE OF CATS.

20TH CENTURY BOYS vol. 1.

CAN I PET YOUR WEREWOLF?

SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN dlx edition.

WONDER WOMAN: HISTORIA.

Or you could give the gift that keeps on confusing this holiday season-

WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? vol. 1 and 2.

They will also special order stuff for you if you don’t see what you want on the site. So if you’re buying some comics this month, keep them in mind.

Looks like that’s it for me.

Stay safe. Take care of each other. I love opening a podcast with the sound of sirens.

IDEAS DON'T BLEED podcast
A weekly podcast where hosts Matthew Rosenberg, Ethan S. Parker, and Griffin Sheridan talk to guests from around the world of comic books. It's fun. It's short. Why not give it a listen?
