WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON’T BLEED!
This week, we’re joined by Jason Aaron (Thor / The Goddamned) as we discuss his comics origins, controversial storylines, his current Boom! Studios book Once Upon a Time at the End of the World, and more!
IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books!
Our theme song is “Where’s the Poison” by Summer People.
Enjoy!
Hello!
I’m very excited about this weeks show. I was joined by one of my favorite writers of all time, Mr. Jason Aaron, for one of our most chaotic episodes of all time. If you’ve never had the pleasure of reading his creator owned books like SCALPED, THE OTHER SIDE, SOUTHERN BASTARDS, or my current obsession ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD, you have been really missing out. He has also been one of the main driving creative forces at Marvel for more than a decade on books like AVENGERS, THOR, STAR WARS, and so many more. And now he has landed (back) at DC where he has brand new BATMAN and SUPERMAN books coming up.
I am as excited for both of these as I’ve been for any comic in the last few years. Jason does brutality and humor, villainy and heroism, the epic and the intimate, all with equal mastery. He is also one of the kindest people I know, so it’s extra frustrating that he’s so good.
But not only should you listen to part I of our podcast and read all of his books, you can sign up for his newsletter and get the scoops on all that stuff and he’ll probably talk to you about college football for some unknown reason.
So listen up, sign up, and go read some of Jason’s amazing work.
I also wanted to address a bit of sad news. It’s been an absolutely awful week in terms of pretty much the whole planet and caring about other humans. I am hoping for a speedy peace and that real soon everyone can go to bed at night knowing that they and their families are safe in their homes.
But for us comics people, we also lost one of the greats this week. Keith Giffen passed away and, in perfect Keith Giffen-ness, announced his own death on social media in the best way anyone has ever done.
I only was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Giffen once, but I had the honor of following in his footsteps a few times with books like ANNIHILATION SCOURGE and ROCKET RACCOON, and now playing with some of his creations like Lobo and Blue Beetle. A heartbreaking loss, but it’s been nice to be able to commiserate with comic friends who are in town.
That’s it for me. Stay safe. Care about each other, please.
