Hello and happy Friday!
I’ve basically been working all week, so I don’t have a lot to report. I bought a thing I thought was a Philly Cheesesteak for dinner last night but it was actually a “Grilly Cheesesteak” which is a grilled cheese sandwich with cheesesteak in it. Probably should have given up after the clever name. Other than that I’ve been writing and writing and… more writing.
DC VS VAMPIRES #10 came out this week and the response has been great as we enter the home stretch. I also got a lot of people asking me how I was allowed to do a joke about Grifter trying to do drugs with Green Arrow. The answer is… I don’t know? I write a lot of things that Standards and Practices make me take out. Like, lots. So I think I’m just wearing them down maybe. We should know soon. Either way, thanks to everyone who picked up the book. It’s all fun from here on out and nobody you care about is going to die!
People also remained excited about me, Kelly, and Ed discussing our time with UNCANNY X-MEN over on Ideas Don’t Bleed. It was a fun one. I’m thinking of bringing more of my collaborators in to discuss books we’ve done together. It’s a good chance for the Sultry Boyz to have someone to make fun of me with.
Oh, we had a fun livestream with Tini Howard this week, where we discussed her career, Catwoman, cosplay, creator owned comics, and cocoa for breakfast. Thanks to all who came out and/or asked questions. You can watch it on our fancy ass youtube channel here. We’re going to start adding more content there regularly, so go subscribe or whatever. And MiscellaneousSoup, we chose your question as the question of the show! So email us your address so we can send you free stuff from our awesome sponsors at Third Eye Comics! I have no idea what they are going to send people, so I am actually kind of jealous. I think our guest next month will be the mysterious writer of Morning Glories, Spider-Man, and Captain America, Mr. Nick Spencer. If it’s not him, just know it’s because he’s not a good friend.
But who would YOU all like to see on the show or hear on the podcast? I asked that on twitter and lots of people suggested either themselves or people way too famous to talk to me. We have a narrow strike zone here with IDEAS DON’T BLEED. It’s basically people I can guilt trip into talking to me. Work within those parameters and let me know who you want to see in the comments.
But I’m not just all about my own show! I actually popped into the excellent ComicPop the other day to discuss WildC.A.T.S with Sal. It was a blast and you can watch it below. If you’re a jerk you can jump ahead to like 16 minutes to see me make my entrance. But don’t do that. Watch the show. It’s fun.
Here’s a cool thing! When I was at NYCC a few weeks ago I was stopped by an employee of the New York Public Library who let me know that WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? vol. 1 is one of their suggestions on their 2022 GRAPHIC NOVELS FOR ADULTS list. That’s pretty neat. THE NYPL is such a great institution and it’s really an honor to be featured like this.
For those who doubt me about the NYPL being the coolest, check out the new Library Cards they are offering. Obviously very near and dear to my heart.
You can sign up for a special Spidey library card here and then go check out WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE?.
In exciting news, this weekend is the final order cutoff for WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? #8. This is the 2nd of our “Flashback issues” that give you a little history of our world. This time we’re going to see how the world ended and how a family began. We’re joined for this issue by the amazing Ricardo López Ortiz. Ricardo and I did a KINGPIN series a few years ago that was a ton of fun, so I was very excited about doing more with him. And he and Tyler are drinking buddies, so that’s probably why he agreed to work with me again. Either way, we’re lucky to have him.
As always, we don’t necessarily condone reading previews, but I know some of you love them. So here you go
Words by Tyler Boss and me. Letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Art by Ricardo López Ortiz. Colors by Roman Titov.
Like always, it helps us so much if you tell your local comic shop you want a copy this weekend. The final order cutoff for shops is 10/31 (spooky!) and it’s in stores 11/23 (turkey!).
And while you’re doing that I have 2 DC books that have their final order cutoff this weekend too. DC VS. VAMPIRES #11 and WILDSTORM 30th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL has 2 stories by me in it, as well as Jim Lee, Brandon Choi, J. Scott Campebll, Josh Williamson, Bryan Hitch, Ed Brisson, Brett Booth, and more! It’s fun being the least impressive person in a book. That sounds sarcastic but it isn’t.
And since we’re doing sneak peeks, the lovely folks at AIPT have a preview of next Week’s JOKER #2. This book continues to be some of the most fun I’ve ever had making comics. Me, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Francesco Francavilla, Arif Prianto, Tom Napolitano, and Ben Abernathy are all looking for new places to take the Clown Prince of Crime. And sleeping on the Subway seemed like a fun one.

This has been stuck in my head for days. No idea why. It is a good summer jam though. It’s just fall.
That’s it for this week.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Preorder your comics.

Dammit! I want a NYPL Spider-Man card, but I live in Michigan. 😢
Looking forward to the return of What’s the Furthest Place From Here? and the launch of WildCATS.
One of my actual favourite songs!
