Romance!
A Signing!
A Valentine’s Free Comic For You!
The Mixtape!
Hi.
Happy Valentine’s Day! And what an exciting day it is. I guess. I’m just working. But I saw a Bald Eagle flying over Manhattan yesterday, and that was pretty cool. I’ll count that as a Valentine’s Day miracle.
I wanted to share a romantic moment form one of my books but it turns out I make a lot of comics about weirdos and broken people, so the romances aren’t always perfect… Except for this scene from WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE?.
Perfect. Happy Valentine’s Day. Go fight someone.
I have a fun little bit of news. “Friend” of the newsletter
launched his new book THE DISPLACED #1 this week. It’s excellent and you should all grab a copy. He’s going on a little signing tour to promote it and even has a super rare variant cover by “acquaintance” of the newsletter Chip Zdarsky that will only be available at the signings. He also made this nice tour poster to promote it.Looks nice. Lots of fun comic shops. But it feels kind of cluttered and confusing. I will help clean it up because I’m a good friend.
If you’re in Pittsburgh come say hi and get some books signed. I might also be in Annapolis, so say hi if you see me. I might not though.
I have too much to do today to write my normal Wednesday New Comic suggestions but you all should grab BLUE BOOK 1947 #1, VIC BOONE, MARY TYLER MOOREHAWK, and BLACK’S MYTH: THE KEY TO HIS HEART. And there is a manga I don’t know anything about called PASS THE MONSTER MEAT M’LADY. No idea if it’s good, but you kind of have to buy it.
Oh, and buy THE DISPLACED #1 too I guess.
Because I haven’t figured out how to send you chocolates through this thing (yet) I had to think of a different gift for you.
I’m sure many of you have read it, but in case not- enjoy reading WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? #1 as a gift from us to you.
I wanted to put the most romantic song of all time on here this week. As we all know that is Sinead O’Connor’s cover of Nothing Compares 2 U, but I have a rule about putting 2 songs by the same artist in this newsletter within a year. So now we’re going with the second most romantic song of all time.
Greatest lyricist of all time? Maybe.
I guess that’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Come hang out in Pittsburgh with me, and not Ed.

Thanks for sharing! I’d never heard So Long Marianne before.
Maybe not the most popular choice, but I’m a sucker for Chris Cornell‘s version of Nothing Compares 2 You.
As an aside, the Revisionist History podcast episode “Hallelujah” talks about Leonard Cohen a bit (among others) and is really interesting. Highly recommended!
I'm hoping someone will buy an extra copy of that Chip Variant that which I may score later, I'm exiled in Seattle nowhere near Ed's tour! 🤞🏽
