Hi there!
Happy Halloween to all those who celebrate. And Happy Sunday to those that aren’t into candy and ghosts. And I guess just happy today to those that aren’t into “calendars” and “days.”
I have a bigger post coming this week but since I seem to have fallen backwards into being “the guy who makes spooky comics” I thought I’d send this note reminding you that comics make excellent treats for trick or treaters. And for the kids who don’t like comics they make excellent tricks. You can’t go wrong. Got some old comics laying around? Perfect! Or head down to your local comic shop and buy a bunch of comics to give out. A lot of shops have discount bins or if you tell them you just need a bunch of stuff to give out they might be able to help you out. Giving out comics is like being a “full sized candy bar house” x 10.
Need suggestions for stuff to give out? Or just looking for some spooky stuff to read for yourself? Well lucky for you I write some spooky comics and am wildly self-serving. So go pick these up today and traumatize the children in your neighborhood (in a good way).
The DC universe fights for its life against a vampire invasion. Amazing art by my HAWKEYE FREEFALL partner Otto Schmidt!
The Red Hood leads a team of dead villains in the fight for their lives. Eye-popping art from Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira, and Adriano Lucas.
The Joker continues his stories of murder and mayhem with tales about the Black Cat and Two-Face. Jesús Merino, Juni Ba, Domo Stanton, and Ulises Arreola tell the tales with a very sexy cover by Chip Zdarsky.
Myself , Cian Tormey, and Matt Hollingsworth give you a soggy tale of Killer Croc and Batman. And Becky Cloonan and Dike Ruan bring a beautiful Solomon Grundy story.
All 4 issues are in comic shops now!
But while you’re there maybe ask them to get you copies of all the creepy horror covers we have for Tyler Boss and my new Image Comics series WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE?
DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH’s Martin Simmonds brings this gorgeously creepy cover for issue #1. Out in 2 weeks.
BLACK STARS ABOVE’s Jenna Cha gives you this unhinged cover for December’s issue #2.
THE SILVER COIN’s Michael Walsh delivers this true nightmare cover for January’s issue #3.
Even if you don’t feel like going out or giving out candy, it doesn’t mean you can’t be spooky. Here are some halloween tunes to listen to at a party or alone in the dark. Best consumed with candy.
That’s it from me. I’m going to go eat candy, give out some Judge Dredd comics to children, eat some more candy, and watch something scary. And Succession.
Stay safe. Take care of each other.
