IDEAS DON’T BLEED Classic!
Oh hey.
We’re back for another installment of… this. Thanks for waiting. I’ve got some new stuff out, some updates, and some bullshit. Lets dive in.
We’ll start with two new books out in the past week. First up is WHAT’S THE FURTHEST PLACE FROM HERE? vol. 3.
This bad boy collects issues 14-18 in one handy format. Some of my favorite moments from the series are in here. So run to your local comic shop and grab a copy today. And if you’re someone who buys stuff from the mega stores like Amazon or Barnes & Noble, it’s not out there yet. Comic shops get it first because they’re better.
When we put out volume 2 I know a bunch of people asked “Where are issues 7-9? Are you guys dumb?!” I am happy to finally explain that yes, we are dumb. Also we wanted to play with the reading experience for trade readers, so we built a story that can be rearranged a bit. But I am happy to show off that issues 7-9 and issue 19 will be collected in February in WTFPFH? vol. 4. So there you go.
Also out this week is DC VS. VAMPIRES: WORLD WAR V #2.
It’s another oversized issue full of humans and vampires fighting it out. We have a very fun twist at the end that I am really excited about. Someone on twitter has already messaged me to tell me what they think is going to happen in the future of the book and to tell me that I’m fucking dumb for doing that. So, I guess you decide if it’s a fun twist or not.
But the other thing I’m excited about in this issue is my partner in partnering, Tyler Boss, is doing the back up stories for this and the next issue. And they’re about the greatest batfamily member of all…
No, not her…
Not him either…
Or her…
I forgot about him, but no…
Nope…
That’s right! It’s Bat-Mite in the vampire apocalypse!
Book is worth it for this alone. Me and Otto’s story is just a bonus.
Speaking of Tyler and I, some of you know we made a comic a few years ago called 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK. We thought it was fun. So when some nice folks asked if they could turn it into a movie a few years ago, we enthusiastically said “I guess…”
Which leads us to this.
The fine folks at Deadline scooped some news. In addition to the amazing folks at PictureStart (Cha Cha Real Smooth, Unpregnant, Strays) who optioned our book a few years ago and have been working non-stop to get it made, we have new production companies on the team in Seth Rogen’s Point Grey (Preacher, The Boys, Invincible), and FilmNation (Looper, Arrival, Promising Young Woman). We also revealed our director, the amazing Frankie Shaw (SMILF), who also worked on the script with Matt Robinson (Dora and the Lost City of Gold, upcoming Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Live Die Repeat and Repeat). And Liam Neeson (Schindler’s List, Taken, JEDI MASTER QUI-GON JINN!!!) will lead an amazing cast.
I can’t really comment much more on it than that, which is funny because I have had 10 hours of meetings about it this past week alone. I can say (I think) that Tyler and I are co-producers, along with our ride or die dudes from the start Matt Pizzolo and Brett Gurewitz from Black Mask. We’re super excited and hopefully will have more news soon. None of this would have happened without the support of all the readers who picked up a copy of our little comic and posted about it, shared it with friends, or just kept it all for themselves. So thank you all.
Since people have been clamoring for 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK stuff in the wake of the announcement, I figured I’d try to see if I had some rarities sitting in a box somewhere. Turns out I do.
I threw some stuff in very limited quantities up in the webstore. Go check it out if that’s your thing.
Get ‘em before they’re gone. Or don’t. It’s just stuff.
We got a late start this week, but over on our YouTube channel we are posting our old podcasts for folks who missed them or folks who prefer podcasts on YouTube.
This week is Part I of our chat with Alex Paknadel. We’re talking about his work and life, and focussing on his excellent Image Comics series ALL AGAINST ALL. But it’s perfect timing because Alex is about to launch the brilliant SENTINELS next month from Marvel.
We obviously don’t talk about that here because this interview is from when we were both essentially children, but you can get a feel for what a lovable little scamp Alex is, and hopefully that will get you excited to go preorder SENTINELS #1 at your local comic shop.
Well that’s it for me.
Stay safe. Take care of each other. Have fun sailing the electronic bay!
